Kiera, age 6
Diffuse Venous Malformation Kiera has waged an amazing battle. She was diagnosed with Diffuse Venous Malformation, which is caused by an excess of malformed veins, which contain no muscle. There is no cure for her condition and she receives aquatic therapy up to five times per week at St. Luke's Rehabilitation Institute to relieve her pain. She has undergone many surgeries to temporarily alleviate her pain at Boston’s Children’s Hospital where they inject alcohol into her veins. She will continue to receive this treatment annually and sometime bi-annually. In 2004 Kiera was honoured as the ambassador for the sate of Washington to share her incredible story and spread the word about the important work of our local hospitals and programs. Her and her family traveled to Washington DC to meet he president and to Orlando, Florida to partake in the CMN Champions program. |
